Testimonials

Dr. Chung-Chi Chen (Researcher, Artificial Intelligence Research Center, National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology, Japan) says:

"I collaborated with Sohom on a project aimed at simplifying texts for investors and assessing crowd reactions. He showcased his diligence and passion for exploring diverse solutions to challenging problems in our regular weekly meetings. Whenever Prof. Naskar and I proposed a new method to explore, Sohom would impress us by presenting multiple alternative approaches the following week, demonstrating his keen scientific acumen and ability to extrapolate findings from singular instances to broader contexts.

Sohom also made contributions to several shared tasks I led, focused on advancing NLP applications within the FinTech sector. As the organizer of shared tasks, I was particularly struck by Sohom's creativity. His proposals often offered unique perspectives. This ability speaks volumes about his innovative mindset.

On a personal note, working with Sohom has been a joy. His combination of easygoing personality, hard work, passion, and creativity make him a delightful colleague."

Dr. Serdar Kadioglu (Group VP of AI at Fidelity & Adjunct Professor at Brown University, USA) says:

"Sohom proved to be an extremely efficient and hard-working Data Scientist throughout our interaction in a cross-team initiative as part of the AI Center at Fidelity.

Our research focused on unsupervised learning from sequential data, and Sohom mastered our intensive research rapidly. He then contributed significantly with new applications for Intrusion Detection, demonstrating results that outperform the state-of-the-art on established benchmarks.

Beyond our research collaboration, his expertise in Natural Language Processing led to several business-relevant artifacts and helped other data scientists. Notable examples include his work on transformer-based ensemble learning to classify the scope of articles and question-answer retrieval systems, focusing on ill-formed or incomplete search queries, which is of great practical interest in the industry.

Finally, Sohom is a fantastic team player, yet, he is not afraid to take the initiative when needed, especially under tight deadlines. Overall, Sohom has demonstrated great competence and enthusiasm in all my interactions with him."

Dr. Sudip Kumar Naskar (Associate Professor, Jadavpur University, Kolkata, India) says:

"Welcome to the doctors’ club. Thoroughly deserved!"

"As his Ph.D. advisor, I have had the pleasure of guiding and mentoring him throughout his research journey so far, and I can confidently attest to his achievements and potential in research.

Sohom has been working on Financial Natural Language Processing, a highly interdisciplinary and relatively new area of research. His research focuses on developing NLP techniques to analyze and understand financial texts.
Sohom's research achievements to date have been impressive. He has published numerous papers in top-tier conferences and journals, including TheWebConf (WWW-2024), LREC-COLING 2024, FIRE-2023, Software Impacts (Elsevier), and SN Computer Science (Springer), among others.

In addition to his research achievements, Sohom has also contributed to the academic and research community by mentoring student projects, delivering invited talks, and reviewing conference and journal papers.

Sohom’s research has also been recognized through several awards and honors, including Honorable Mention in CODS-COMAD 2023 YRS Track, 2nd Rank in FinArg-1@NTCIR-17 Task-1 Sub-Task-2, and 1st Rank in Japanese and Chinese tasks in FinNLP@AACL-IJCNLP 2023 ESG ML-2. He also received a Student Travel Grant to attend the PhD Clinic Session at CODS-COMAD 2024, IIIT Bangalore.
